Church on the Hill A.M.E. Zion
975 St. Nicholas Ave, New York, NY 10032
The African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion Church denomination started in New York in 1821 when many African Americans faced discrimination in other churches, and the church later played a large role in the African American Civil Rights Movement.
Church on the Hill A.M.E. Zion has been a pillar in the Harlem community since 1910. Under the leadership of Reverend Deforest, our church serves a diverse group of Harlem residents. We offer programs that support low-income families with housing, jobs, financial planning, health care, and day care services. We also provide a wide range of senior support services, including meals and activities, to nurture local seniors, many of whom are on a fixed income.
About this project
Heating: Our church building is currently heated by a steam boiler that is fueled using heating oil. The boiler, which was installed in 1965, is missing insulation and does not run consistently. A more efficient boiler and smarter heating system will be installed.
Lighting: We currently use outdated industrial-style fluorescent lights. These lights waste energy, and tend to flicker and buzz. A more efficient, LED lighting system will replace the current lights.
What we’re installing
- New Efficient Steam Boiler
- Upgrading the Boiler Room to Code
- Boiler Controls
- New LED LIghting
Who is installing?
The Vorea Group from Brooklyn (http://www.thevoreagroup.com/), Absolute Combustion, Absolute Combustion from Brooklyn, and Willdan from Manhattan (http://www.willdan.com/) will be the contractors for this project.
- Demolish Existing Boiler Room
- Lay Down New Concrete
- Waterproof the Boiler Room
- Install Efficient Heating System
- Install Efficient Lighting
